Regional Focus:

We were surrounded. Every time we entered a village, people would stop us, pleading for prayer. The hunger for the gospel was unlike anything I had seen in all my years in Nepal. Crowds came, not for spectacle, but for truth, for healing, for hope. They came to be prayed for and to hear the good news of Jesus. But when we left, something heartbreaking became clear: there was no church, no missionary, no one to follow up in the 50+ villages we had visited. How could these seekers grow in their faith? That’s when it hit us. We couldn’t keep doing things the same way. To truly reach the unreached, we had to think radically different.

Some of the topics included in this program are:

Homestay Programs: Immerse yourself in the daily life of a local host family to cultivate a deeper love and understanding of the culture (Luke 10:5-7)

Having a Kingdom Worldview: Learn to live with love for God and your neighbor as the driving force behind everything you do. (1 Cor 13:1-3)

Storytelling & Contextualization: Communicate the gospel in a way that speaks to the heart of your audience, so the message is not only heard but truly received. (1 Cor 9:19-23)

Disciple Making Movements. Learn how to start fellowships of believers that are able to multiply by themselves.
(2 Tim 2:2)

Team Building & Cultural Adjustments: Develop the skills to thrive in a new cultural environment as well as how to care for your personal wellbeing.

What is the Field Based – Foundation for Intercultural Studies (FIS) all about?

Where: The program is hosted by Frontier Mission – Pokhara, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas just north of Pokhara, Nepal.

Initial training takes place either at the training center or in nearby villages, offering immersive, hands-on learning in a cross-cultural setting. Internship locations are determined collaboratively with students during the first few weeks, based on individual strengths, interests, and strategic opportunities for impact.

Cost: The total program fee is USD 3,000, which covers all training costs, accommodation, and travel expenses related to the Field Trip/Visa Run for the entire 10-month duration.

Please note: This fee does not include international travel to and from Pokhara, visa-related expenses, or personal spending money.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of a Discipleship Training School (DTS) is required, although exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Lecture Phase:

For four weeks you will stay at a hostel to learn about intercession and how to appropriately act within the culture, and then you will live eight weeks with a local family in a traditional village. At the same time, you will learn the tools on how to effectively reach locals with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We emphasize teaching you how to share the gospel in culturally impactful ways, as well as teach you how to start disciple making movements and churches that are able to multiply by themselves.

Field Trip:

We will travel to Delhi and Varanasi to visit people who are practicing both Disciple Making Movements and culturally effective ministry in their daily life. We take everything we learned in lecture phase and meet people who are taking up the cross and living out missions in their setting and culture.

Outreach Phase:

In outreach phase you continue living with a host family while living out what you have learned during the lecture phase with proper guidance and follow up from the school staff. Hopefully you and your team will also get the opportunity to plant a house church! For more information, feel free to get in touch with us using the button above!
